Explain Price Difference in Cost of Steel Bars From China
President of REHDA Malaysia, Mr Ng Seing Liong, JP urges the Government especially the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs, Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI) and the Malaysian Iron and Steel Industry Federation (MISIF) to investigate and explain the 30% price difference in cost of steel bars from China.
The Master Builders Association of Malaysia (MBAM) President’s, Patrick Wong was reported in the Malaysian Reserve today as saying that the cost of steel bar per tonne in China is less then RM2, 400 compared to RM3, 500 in Malaysia.
“We need to know why and how the price difference come about”, Mr. Ng said.
REHDA also wants to know what the Government intend to do on the gradual liberalisation of the steel bars industry here in order to enhance its competitiveness and efficiency.
“As an immediate measure, we urge the Government to allow import and to ban export of all steel materials so that the market can find its equilibrium fast”, Mr Ng added.
