“Green Tour 2” is back
Following the astounding success from the first Green Tour organised in March 2011 which received overwhelming response, REHDA Youth, the Youth Body of the Real Estate and Housing Developers' Association Malaysia (REHDA) once again hosted the Green Tour KL 2 for the second consecutive year on 22 May 2012.
The much awaited tour this year showcased outstanding environmentally-friendly developments in the Klang Valley; the newly completed REHDA Malaysia Headquarters, KEN Rimba, Legian Residences in Shah Alam, the S11 House in Section 11 Petaling Jaya, 11 Mont Kiara or also known as MK11 in Mont Kiara and Sime Darby Idea House in Shah Alam.
Officiated by Y Bhg Datuk Loo Took Gee, the Secretary General Ministry of Energy, Green Technology and Water, the tour marked a historic moment for REHDA as the tour kicked off from the newly completed green REHDA Malaysia Headquarters. “In line with REHDA’s tagline, Towards Sustainable Development, the new REHDA Headquarters encapsulates REHDA’s commitment in promoting sustainable development,” said Datuk Seri Michael Yam, President of REHDA. “The new REHDA Headquarters is featured with green technologies namely photovoltaic technology system, rainwater harvesting system as well as natural ventilation wall system. The building is also well equipped with a wide range of facilities which will be able to meet members’ needs more efficiently, “added Datuk Seri Michael.
“Green technology is fast gaining acceptance in Malaysia. People are more conscious and showing interest in environmental issues and green technology. Whilst it may be somewhat costly, it may be a small price to pay for the sake of protecting the environment as the public increasingly realise the benefits of going green, especially in the long run,’’ said Datuk Seri Michael Yam.
REHDA is pleased to note that more and more developers are embarking to adopt green technologies in their developments. Through the commitment of each individual and support from the Government, the Association believes that over time, the nation’s green agenda will be accomplished.
Datuk Seri Michael Yam further highlighted that there has been growing demand for green developments and developers should respond to these needs. ‘’The investment to adopt green technologies, if properly executed, will bring tremendous benefits, including reduction in energy costs, conserving natural resources, increased comfort, higher perceived value and protection of natural environment.” He urged developers and building professionals to continuously enhance knowledge on green technology to keep abreast of the latest technology and trends to ensure continued sustainability. This, he added, can be achieved via various forums, seminar sessions including that of the Green Tour, where participants are provided with firsthand information and insights on the features, design and the benefits of green buildings.
Green Tour 2 KL is also honoured to once again work with AkzoNobel - the world’s largest paints and coatings company this year. AkzoNobel’s continued support to this green initiative indicates their unwavering commitment to sustainability. AkzoNobel’s Mr CW Goh, who is the Managing Director of ICI Paints Malaysia Sdn Bhd said that as the world’s leading company that embraces the concept of sustainability, they are conscientiously responsible in ensuring sustainable practices not just in their products, but also their business practices and environmental management. ‘’We are convinced that AkzoNobel and Dulux can complement REHDA’s green initiatives to generate new, sustainable ideas and transform not only the way a building looks aesthetically but the lives of the people that live, play and work there,’’ said Goh.
